Aquarium heating cable: gentle, diffuse heat

A heating cable, also known as a heat cord, is an aquarium heating device that offers a different approach to traditional heaters. Instead of heating the water directly, it emits gentle heat that diffuses into the aquarium substrate.

What is a heating cable used for?
• Substrate heating: It creates a constant heat source at the bottom of the aquarium, thus promoting the development of nitrifying bacteria and the growth of plant roots.
• Simulation of a natural environment: It reproduces the natural conditions of certain biotopes where the temperature of the substrate is slightly higher than that of the water.

It can be used in addition to a traditional heater to maintain a more stable and uniform temperature in the aquarium.

How does a heating cable work?

The heating cable is a long, waterproof wire, usually made of silicone, that emits heat when an electric current passes through it. It is laid on the bottom of the aquarium, often in a zigzag pattern, and covered with gravel or sand.
The heat produced diffuses slowly into the substrate, creating a thermal gradient.
